Product details

Apis Półtorak Jadwiga 75cl is the larger bottling of Apis's raspberry and rose honey wine, a Polish mead at 16% ABV in a decorative ceramic bottle. It belongs to the półtorak class, made with one measure of honey to half a measure of water, which yields the thickest and most intensely honeyed of the four traditional Polish mead styles. The others, dwójniak, trójniak and czwórniak, use progressively more water. If you need a large bottle of Polish mead to share at a festive dinner, or a present where the bottle is part of the gift, this is the format to choose.

Jadwiga 75cl tasting notes

  • Aroma: Bright golden honey with wild rose, raspberry jam and a faint floral perfume.
  • Taste: Rich, almost liqueur-like body, with candied raspberry and rosehip on a backbone of honey.
  • Finish: Sweet and lasting, with a soft hint of spice.

Serving Półtorak Jadwiga at the table

Treat it like a dessert wine: lightly chilled or at room temperature, in 50–60 ml pours in a small tulip glass. Aged Gouda, walnut pastries and roast pork with prunes all suit it, and it sits comfortably on a Christmas table once the main course is cleared. Reseal an opened bottle and keep it somewhere cool and dark between servings.

How to warm it: Jadwiga mulled mead

A warm jug makes the 75cl bottle go further when friends call round in winter.

  • Jadwiga mulled mead: warm 300 ml Półtorak Jadwiga with 300 ml apple juice, a cinnamon stick and three cloves, keeping it below a simmer.
  • Rosehip Tea Toddy: stir 40 ml Półtorak Jadwiga into 150 ml hot rosehip tea with a slice of lemon.

How it compares

This is the same recipe as the 50cl Półtorak Jadwiga, simply in a bigger bottle, so choose by how many people you are pouring for. Set beside Dwójniak Staropolski 75cl, which is also raspberry-led, Jadwiga is markedly sweeter and denser, because the dwójniak uses twice as much water relative to honey.

Good to know

Wodka Company dispatches Apis Półtorak Jadwiga 75cl from London to customers across the UK. The 75cl bottle gives roughly a dozen small dessert pours, enough for a family gathering, and the ceramic bottle is worth keeping once it is empty.

Po polsku

Ta sama receptura co w wersji 0,5 l, tylko w większej, 0,75-litrowej ceramicznej butelce: Apis Półtorak Jadwiga to miód pitny o mocy 16% z maliną i dziką różą. Proporcja jednej miary miodu do połowy miary wody daje najbardziej skoncentrowany z czterech tradycyjnych stylów polskiego miodu pitnego. Konsystencją przypomina likier, a w smaku łączy kandyzowaną malinę i owoc dzikiej róży z wyraźnym miodem. Warto traktować go jak wino deserowe i podawać lekko schłodzony lub w temperaturze pokojowej, do dojrzałej goudy albo wypieków z orzechami.

Frequently asked questions

Is Apis Półtorak Jadwiga 75cl a dessert wine?

Yes, in the way it is served. Apis Półtorak Jadwiga 75cl is a honey wine rather than a grape wine, but its dense sweetness and floral raspberry profile mean it is poured like Sauternes or Tokaji: in small measures, with pudding or a cheese board.

How many glasses does a 75cl bottle of Apis Półtorak Jadwiga give?

A 75cl bottle of Apis Półtorak Jadwiga gives roughly 12 to 15 pours of 50–60 ml, the usual measure for such a rich mead. That makes the larger ceramic bottle practical for a dinner party or a festive table.

Can you cook with Apis Półtorak Jadwiga?

Yes. Reduce a splash of Apis Półtorak Jadwiga with a knob of butter to glaze roast duck or pork, or spoon it over poached pears and vanilla ice cream. Its honey, rose and raspberry notes hold up well to gentle heat.
