Product details
Apis Półtorak Jadwiga is a rich Polish mead flavoured with raspberry and wild rose, bottled at 16% ABV in a 50cl ceramic bottle. A półtorak uses the smallest share of water of any traditional Polish mead, one part honey to half a part water, so it is the most concentrated and honey-forward style. Jadwiga pours a clear gold and adds raspberry and wild rose to that dense base. Think of it as a Polish dessert mead for small glasses after dinner, or a gift for someone who enjoys Sauternes or Tokaji.
Półtorak Jadwiga tasting notes
- Aroma: Fragrant honey, rose petals and ripe raspberry.
- Taste: Dense and sweet, with a syrupy texture, floral rose and soft red fruit.
- Finish: Long and honeyed, fading slowly on rosehip.
Texture is the striking feature here: noticeably thicker than any dwójniak, it coats the glass as you swirl it.
How to drink Półtorak Jadwiga
Pour small measures of about 50 ml at cellar temperature, 14–16°C, into a sherry or dessert-wine glass; the richness means a little goes a long way. Try it with sernik, poppy-seed cake (makowiec) or a creamy blue cheese. It also makes a thoughtful end to a Christmas or name-day dinner, when Polish families traditionally bring out something special.
Cocktails with Półtorak Jadwiga
- Rose Honey Sour: shake 40 ml Półtorak Jadwiga, 20 ml gin and 20 ml lemon juice with ice, then strain into a chilled coupe.
- Jadwiga Tonic: 40 ml Półtorak Jadwiga over ice in a tall glass, topped with 120 ml tonic water and a lemon twist.
How it compares
Jadwiga is fuller and sweeter than the 1:1 Dwójniak Staropolski, even though both carry raspberry and the same 16% ABV. Against the 13% Trójniak Staropolski Tradycyjny, which uses twice as much water as honey, it is far denser and more honeyed. The identical raspberry and wild rose mead is also sold in a 75cl Półtorak Jadwiga bottle.
Good to know
The decorative ceramic bottle is part of the appeal, and the 50cl size is a sensible way to try the richest Apis style before committing to the larger one. Wodka Company can send Apis Półtorak Jadwiga 50cl anywhere in the UK from its shop in London.
Po polsku
Apis Półtorak Jadwiga reprezentuje najgęstszy styl miodu pitnego: na jedną część miodu przypada tu zaledwie pół części wody. Ten półtorak o mocy 16%, w ceramicznej butelce 0,5 l, ma klarowną złotą barwę, a do miodowej bazy dodano malinę i dziką różę.
Frequently asked questions
Why is Apis Półtorak Jadwiga so thick and rich?
Apis Półtorak Jadwiga is a półtorak, the mead style made with the least water: just half a measure for every measure of honey. That concentrated base gives the 50cl bottling its syrupy, almost liqueur-like body and intense honey sweetness.
Does Apis Półtorak Jadwiga taste of roses?
Yes. Apis Półtorak Jadwiga is flavoured with wild rose as well as raspberry, so rose petal and rosehip notes appear on the nose and stay through to the finish, framed by golden honey.
Is there a difference between the 50cl and 75cl Apis Półtorak Jadwiga?
No, apart from size. The 50cl Apis Półtorak Jadwiga holds the same raspberry-and-wild-rose mead as the 75cl Półtorak Jadwiga, and gives around ten small dessert-wine pours, which makes it a sensible first bottle if you are new to the style.
