Product details

Krupnik Hazelnut is a Polish hazelnut vodka liqueur, made with hazelnut extract and walnut macerate on a vodka base and bottled at 30% ABV in a 50cl bottle. Polish shoppers know it as Orzechowy. Unlike many sweet nut liqueurs, it is only lightly sweet, so the roasted-nut aroma and the slightly woody walnut character come through clearly. It appeals to drinkers who enjoy amaretto but want something less sugary, and it suits autumn evenings and the Christmas cake tin.

Krupnik Hazelnut on the nose and palate

  • Nose: Roasted hazelnuts, praline and a woody hint of walnut skin.
  • Palate: Gently sweet and nutty, with toffee and a touch of marzipan.
  • Finish: Warm and medium-long, with toasted nuts and light bitterness.

How to drink Krupnik Hazelnut

Serve it at room temperature or lightly chilled in a small glass, or over a single large ice cube. It goes with walnut cake, a nut-topped Polish Easter mazurek and a board of hard cheeses, and a splash lifts a cup of black coffee. It is at home on the Christmas table, at a long Sunday lunch or on a quiet autumn evening.

Krupnik Hazelnut cocktails

  • Nutty Russian: build 40 ml Krupnik Hazelnut and 20 ml Krupnik Premium Vodka over ice in a rocks glass, then gently float 40 ml single cream on top.
  • Hazelnut Espresso: stir 25 ml into a freshly pulled double espresso and serve in a small cup after dinner.

How it compares

As a hazelnut liqueur at 30%, it is noticeably drier and more spirit-led than the 16% cream liqueurs such as Krupnik Pistachio. Those who like nuts with honey should compare it with Krupnik Old Liqueur Honey, which is sweeter, spiced and bottled at 38%. Krupnik Plum offers a similar warmth but swaps the nuts for jammy fruit at 28%.

Najlepiej podawać go w temperaturze pokojowej lub lekko schłodzonego, do ciasta orzechowego, makowca albo deski serów. Dobrze uzupełnia też filiżankę czarnej kawy.

Frequently asked questions

Is Krupnik Hazelnut sweet?

Yes, but only lightly. Krupnik Hazelnut is gently sweetened, so roasted hazelnut, praline and a woody walnut note come through clearly, finishing warm with toasted nuts and a slight bitterness.

What does ‘Orzechowy’ mean?

Orzechowy means ‘nutty’ or ‘made from nuts’ in Polish, the name Krupnik Hazelnut goes by in Poland. The word fits, since the liqueur blends hazelnut extract with walnut macerate instead of relying on hazelnut alone.

What food goes with Krupnik Hazelnut?

Krupnik Hazelnut pairs with walnut cake, makowiec (poppy-seed roll) and mature cheeses, and a small measure stirred into black coffee works well after dinner. Compared with the creamy Krupnik Pistachio, Krupnik Hazelnut is drier and better with savoury food.
