Product details

J.A. Baczewski Hazelnut 50cl is a hazelnut vodka with nougat and vanilla from J.A. Baczewski, the spirits house with roots in Lwów, made on a potato spirit base and bottled at 38% ABV. In Polish it is an Orzechówka, the traditional name for a nut-flavoured vodka. Roasted hazelnuts, nougat and vanilla are combined with potato spirit and brought to strength with alpine water. Sugar and alcohol are kept in balance, so this flavoured vodka can open a meal as easily as it closes one, and it suits anyone with a taste for praline and coffee-house desserts.

Hazelnut Orzechówka tasting notes

  • Nose: Roasted hazelnuts, nougat and warm vanilla.
  • Palate: Nutty and gently sweet, with praline and soft caramel.
  • Finish: Medium length, with toasted hazelnut skin.

The body is lighter than a cream liqueur, closer to a sweetened spirit than to a syrup.

How to serve J.A. Baczewski Hazelnut

The producer's favourite serve is with freshly brewed coffee and a spoonful of whipped cream, and that is hard to improve on. Otherwise, pour it chilled into a small glass before dinner or alongside dessert. Walnut torte, makowiec or a bowl of vanilla ice cream echo its praline notes. It suits Christmas and Easter tables, where nut and poppy-seed bakes are already on the plate.

Cocktails with Orzechówka

  • Hazelnut Coffee: stir 30 ml into 150 ml freshly brewed coffee and top with a spoonful of whipped cream.
  • Nutty Espresso Martini: shake 40 ml Orzechówka, 30 ml espresso and 10 ml plain vodka hard with ice and strain into a chilled coupe.

How it compares

J.A. Baczewski Ovovit Egg Liqueur is the brand's other dessert-friendly bottle, but it is thick, creamy and only 16% ABV. J.A. Baczewski Suweren swaps nuts for orange peel and finishes dry, while the Orzechówka stays rounder and sweeter. Belvedere Dirty Brew is the coffee-led alternative if roast appeals more than praline.

Good to know

Nut vodkas have a long history in Polish home infusing, where green walnuts are traditionally steeped in spirit, and this bottle takes the hazelnut route instead. The 50cl size makes a neat after-dinner gift. When it returns to stock, Wodka Company will post J.A. Baczewski Hazelnut from London to any UK address.

Po polsku

J.A. Baczewski Hazelnut, czyli Orzechówka, to wódka smakowa o mocy 38% w butelce 0,5 l, przygotowana na spirytusie ziemniaczanym z prażonymi orzechami laskowymi, nugatem i wanilią.
