Product details
Soplica Quince Vodka Liqueur is a Polish quince vodka liqueur from Soplica, flavoured with ripe quince from Polish orchards, at 28% ABV in a 50cl bottle. Called Pigwowa, it is matured for a long time under special conditions and has a characteristic taste that is sweet yet gently sour. Its warm, rich aroma recalls baked fruit, and the palate is smooth and full. Quince liqueur has a long history in Polish homes, so this bottle will feel familiar to anyone who grew up near a grandmother's nalewka cupboard.
Tasting notes: Soplica Quince
- Nose: Baked quince, pear and a warm, honeyed fruitiness.
- Palate: Rich and rounded, sweet quince with a light, refreshing acidity.
- Finish: Medium length, fruity and slightly tart.
How to drink Soplica Quince
Serve it chilled in a small glass, or follow a well-loved Polish winter habit and take Soplica Quince in hot tea: 30 ml in 200 ml black tea with a slice of lemon. It pairs with roast goose, pâté, mature cheese and apple pie (szarlotka). A glass suits the run-up to Christmas, especially after a cold walk.
Soplica Quince cocktails
- Quince Prosecco: 20 ml Soplica Quince in a flute, topped with 100 ml chilled prosecco and a thin slice of pear.
- Quince and Apple Highball: 40 ml Soplica Quince over ice in a tall glass with 80 ml cloudy apple juice and 40 ml soda water.
- Quince Whisky Sour: 40 ml Soplica Quince, 20 ml Scotch whisky and 20 ml fresh lemon juice, shaken with ice and strained over fresh ice in a rocks glass.
How it compares
Soplica Lemon and Quince adds lemon for a sharper, crisper style, with the quince in a supporting role. Soplica Apricot, at the same 28%, is softer and sweeter, with less acidity. This bottle is the fullest quince flavour in the Soplica range, rich enough for winter yet fresh enough to mix.
Good to know
Soplica Quince 50cl makes a welcome addition to a winter hamper alongside tea and honey. Like any Polish liqueur of this style, it keeps best upright in a cool cupboard. Wodka Company sends Soplica Quince to customers UK-wide from London.
Zimą wielu Polaków dodaje ją do gorącej herbaty z plasterkiem cytryny, a schłodzona dobrze pasuje do szarlotki.
Frequently asked questions
What does 'Pigwowa' mean?
Pigwowa means 'made from quince', from pigwa, the Polish word for the fruit. Homemade pigwówka is a well-known Polish nalewka, and Soplica Quince follows that sweet yet gently sour style.
What is the difference between Soplica Quince and Soplica Lemon and Quince?
Soplica Quince is the single-fruit version: sweeter and richer, with a warm baked-quince character. Soplica Lemon and Quince (Cytryna•Pigwa) is built on whole lemons with quince added, so it tastes sharper, crisper and more citrus-led.
What food goes with Soplica Quince?
Soplica Quince works on a cheese board in the same way quince paste does, so serve a small chilled glass with Manchego or a mature Cheddar. Soplica Quince also suits roast pork, goose and apple desserts.
