Product details

Soplica Blackcurrant Vodka Liqueur is a Polish blackcurrant vodka liqueur from Soplica, made with Polish blackcurrants and spirit, deep purple and sweet-tart, at 28% ABV in a 50cl bottle. In Polish it is Czarna Porzeczka, and the taste recalls the blackcurrant jams, cordials and homemade nalewki of a Polish summer. The fruit's natural acidity keeps the sweetness in check, so this blackcurrant liqueur never feels heavy. It suits fans of crème de cassis and anyone who likes dark berry flavours, whether in a small glass after dinner or in a long drink.

Soplica Blackcurrant tasting notes

  • Nose: Crushed blackcurrants and a green hint of blackcurrant leaf, with jammy cassis underneath.
  • Palate: Juicy and sweet-tart, dark berry fruit with a slight grip from the skins.
  • Finish: Medium length, fruity and gently drying, ending on fresh currant.

Expect a deep purple-red colour and a fuller body than the citrus liqueurs in the Soplica range.

Serving Soplica Blackcurrant

Serve it chilled in a liqueur glass, or treat it as you would crème de cassis: a little Soplica Blackcurrant with white wine makes an easy Polish take on Kir. Dark fruit flatters rich food, so try it with duck breast, game pâté, a cheese board with aged Gouda or a slice of chocolate torte. A glass works well on an autumn evening, when blackcurrant feels warmer than lighter summer fruit.

What to mix with Soplica Blackcurrant

These Soplica Blackcurrant cocktails keep the measures modest, because a little blackcurrant colours and flavours a whole glass.

  • Polish Kir Royale: 15 ml Soplica Blackcurrant in a flute, topped with 120 ml chilled sparkling wine.
  • Blackcurrant Bramble: 40 ml Soplica Blackcurrant, 20 ml gin and 20 ml fresh lemon juice, shaken with ice and strained over crushed ice in a rocks glass.
  • Currant Lemonade: 40 ml Soplica Blackcurrant over ice in a tall glass, topped with 120 ml cloudy lemonade and a lemon wheel.

How it compares

Soplica Raspberry, at the same 28%, is softer and more summery, while the blackcurrant brings darker fruit and noticeably more acidity. Next to Soplica Cherry at 26%, it is tarter and has no cherry-stone note. Choose the blackcurrant if you like a bolder, tarter berry character, or the raspberry if you want something gentler.

Good to know

Blackcurrants are grown widely in Poland and are a staple of home preserving there, which is where this Polish liqueur takes its flavour from. Po polsku

Ciemnofioletowa Soplica Blackcurrant (Czarna Porzeczka) to likier na bazie wódki z polskich czarnych porzeczek, o zawartości alkoholu 28%, w butelce 0,5 l. Przywodzi na myśl domowe nalewki i porzeczkowe konfitury z polskiego lata. Smak jest soczysty i słodko-kwaśny, bo naturalna kwasowość owoców trzyma słodycz w ryzach. Można jej używać jak crème de cassis: 15 ml w kieliszku dopełnione schłodzonym wytrawnym białym winem daje polską wersję drinka Kir.

Frequently asked questions

Can you use Soplica Blackcurrant instead of crème de cassis?

Yes, Soplica Blackcurrant works in place of crème de cassis in most recipes, bringing the same dark berry flavour with a sweet-tart edge. Add about 15 ml to a flute and top with chilled sparkling wine for a Polish take on the Kir Royale.

What does Soplica Blackcurrant taste like?

Soplica Blackcurrant tastes of crushed dark berries: sweet at first, then tart, with a slight grip from the skins. Anyone who likes blackcurrant jam will recognise the flavour, and a leafy green note stops Soplica Blackcurrant from tasting merely sugary.

What does 'Czarna Porzeczka' mean?

Czarna porzeczka is Polish for blackcurrant: czarna means black and porzeczka means currant, so redcurrant is czerwona porzeczka. Soplica Blackcurrant carries this name on its Polish label, a nod to the homemade blackcurrant cordials and nalewki of Polish summers.
